Day 6: Yet Another Beautiful Day and Ice Skating

Click here to view the blog's latest update.
A clear morning allowed some of our groups to travel up to the top of the mountain. Temperatures up there were extremely cold (approx. -20c).

Other groups enjoyed going higher up the mountain for the first time.

Here's some footage from Mr. Hargreaves coming down one of the slopes...

Our evening trip to the ice rink and had a blast at ice skating, although some penguins were man-handled...

Day 5: A Beautiful Day for Skiing and Disco

A stunning view at 7am this morning from our hotel room.

Today on the slopes, we've had nothing but sunshine and beautiful views, without a cloud in the sky. Let the photographs speak for themselves...

Mrs. Mongan's crew (This was risk assessed before hand).
Her favourite phrase to describe how warm she was: "I'm sweating like a badger!" - "Who says that?" (Asks Mrs. Jeffrey).

This is the way to do the Bansko Can-Can.

The view from the top of one of the slopes.

Members of our beginner group, performing their warm up exercises.

Our evening entertainment tonight was a Valentine's Day Disco with the other schools staying in our hotel, at a local bar in Bansko. Fun was had by everyone...

Especially Mrs. Mongan and Miss Packer...

Day 4: Quiz Night and Another Birthday

Click here to see the blog's latest update.
We had woken up to a snow blizzard, and 5 inches of snow had fallen during the night. Visibilty was very limited on most of the slopes, so our groups had to slow the pace a little bit today. While queuing for the gondola lift, we had sight of the ski teams for Russia, Kasakstan and Canada preparing for the Ski World Cup in Bansko next week. Earlier in the week at Heathrow, some of our students spotted 50 Cent and Will Poulter (Google him!). Danny Wilson had the best fall of the day, where he managed to ski off the piste, fortunately for Danny, he was no longer visible and avoided early identification.

Most of our groups today ascended up near the peak of the mountain (around 2600 metres) and skiied to the bottom along with their instructors.

Returned from the slopes to our hotel, settled down to a quiz after another health spa experience. Our quiz winners, being our Year 10 boys, of whom recieved a Kit Kat chocolate bar, of which tastes exactly the same as English Kit Kats! The day ended with another birthday, Josh Brierley, and his friend endulged into his birthday cake.

Day 3: Bowling and Birthday

Another great days skiing, lots of fresh snow on the slopes. Whilst Mrs Mongan was skiing in the forest and attempting to follow her instructor, a tree jumped into Mrs. Mongan's way. No trees were hurt during the incident, but Mrs. Mongan's sustained slight damage.

This is our intermediate group, who finished the day with a 7km blue run to the bottom of the mountain. All thoroughly tired out, but still had enough energy to have a game of Ten Pin Bowling!

And we concluded our evening wishing Oliver a Happy Birthday!

Day 2: Our First Day of Skiing

Woke up to the snow falling outside, got all our equipment and made our way to the slopes. First fall of the day, Mr. Goodman's comical slip on our way to the gondola. Our best fall of the day goes to Liam Burgoyne, who skied off the piste and ended up being covered in snow up to his neck! The instructors have generally been good, but all the girls are preferring "Gorgeous" George. Ellis' ski instructor has changed his name to "Bob" as she can't pronounce Ellis.

Ski lessons continued throughout the afternoon, concluding with a 7km ski journey down to the bottom of the mountain.  This evening we are relaxing in the hotel's swimming pool, sauna and steam room. Some of the ladies have had the "Happy Feet" spa treatment, and some of the boys jumped into the jacuzzi. During Mrs. Jeffery's spa experience, she decided to walk into the male changing room and was greeted by someone who was showering.

Yes... Our first day was very tiring.

Off to bed now, we've got our year 11 students on hand to check that everyone's in place. Our ski instructors said that they were impressed with our first day's work.

Day 1: Our Arrival

Arrived in Bulgaria safe and sound. Had to wait around an hour for our luggage to be unloaded from the plane because the door had frozen. Olivia Ratcliffe thought she had lost her suitcase at the airport. A few tears but it eventually turned up!

Our hotel is great and everyone is shattered now, but we're all just relaxing.
